Luxul SFP Modules are an important piece of the fiber puzzle. You’ll need them to stack switches, which we all know is a common requirement, but in what other applications can they be employed? And why do we have 7 different products; when should you use the 10G-MM-DX-LC vs. the 10G-CAB-05? And while we’re at it, what do those product names even mean?
Stick with us through this post, and you’ll have the answers to all those questions and more… well, maybe not more.
Naming Convention
Product names can get confusing with all the abbreviations and hyphens, so the guides below will help you decode the product names of our SFP modules and translate them into more useful information.
Each bit of text between the hyphens stands for something:
And each something is defined below:
Speed | |
10G | 10 Gigabit |
1G | 1 Gigabit |
Cable Type | |
SM | Singlemode |
MM | Multimode |
Configuration Type | |
SX | Simplex |
DX | Duplex |
Termination Ends | |
LC | Lucent Connector |
RJ45 | RJ-45 |
Miscellaneous | |
CAB | Pre-terminated cable for stacking |
05 | .5 meter |
Now that you know how to translate the product names into meaningful information, you have a better idea what you’re dealing with out of the gate. But what do each of these products do, and under what circumstances would you need to use them?
